Rising 9th grade Summer reading assignment for PHS

Attention Rising 6th, 7th, and -8th graders~

This summer you will be asked to select a book, read it, and participate in an online reading

project. This year’s program is designed to foster a joy of reading and provides an opportunity

for you to explore different genres. You are encouraged to read more than one book!  You can

select ANY book you wish as long as it is school and grade level appropriate. It can be fiction or

nonfiction!  It needs to be at least 100 pages. 

A great resource for locating books that might interest you is the Powhatan County Public

Library!  You can access the library’s selection of books at

https://public.powhatanlibrary.net/#section=home

Students may begin reading at the beginning of the summer and may complete their online form any time before September 10th

When you are reading to complete your summer reading form:

  • Click on the following link‐ https://tinyurl.com/PMSReads2020 -or enter the address into the browser. Once you have accessed the form, type in your name in the correct space.
  • Type the title of your book.
  • Answer two of the questions listed as they pertain to your reading selection.
  • Click submit.

Students who participate in the summer reading program will receive a treat during the first

month of school.

Meal Pick Up for PCPS Students

Meals Available for Students (Eligible children and students must be present in order for meals to be picked up.) 

Meal pick up is continuing on Mondays during the time school is closed. Food will be distributed at the following school locations:

Powhatan High School - 8:00am to 10:00am. Bus loop at the rear of the school.

Powhatan Elementary School – 8:00am to 10:00am. Bus loop on the western side of the school.

Powhatan Middle School - 4:30pm to 7:00pm. Door 11 located on the western side of the school.

Please check the school division website for updated and additional information regarding meal pick up.

All PCPS students and any children 18 years or younger, and special needs students or children under age 21. 

Please contact the PCPS Food Service Dept. at foodservice@Powhatan.k12.va.us and let 

us know how many students will be with you, whether you will pick up from PMS or PHS, and if there are any dietary needs.
